This lecture will provide a broad overview of the scope of addiction among the elderly. It will examine major aspects of this disease which make detection among the elderly population difficult. This lecture will examine familial, societal, and medical practices which help to disguise and perpetuate this problem. We will examine a broad scope of biological and psychological factors which continue to obscure this disease from early detection and treatment. Appropriate treatment, intervention, and self-help resources will be discussed.
