Administration
Barbara Keller Executive Director Since 1993, Barbara Keller has led the Suffolk Coalition through a period of growth as Executive Director. Her leadership has contributed immensely to the highly-respected, local and national reputation of the Suffolk Coalition. Keller developed the award-winning, alcohol and drug abuse, community coalition-building prevention program entitled COMPASS (COMmunity, PArent, School, Student). Through her efforts during the past six years, the Suffolk Coalition has been awarded over $1M in grants. Keller has spoken on behalf of the agency on radio, television and at state and national conferences. Her achievements have led to leadership citations by the Congressional Records, New York State Assembly, Nassau County, and Town of North Hempstead. Much of Keller's vision for the agency is based on her experience as a central school administrator, elementary school teacher, and public relations professional. She hold a B.A. in English from Hood College, an M.A. in Elementary Education from Long Island University, and a Professional Diploma in Administration and Supervision from Queens College. For seven years, Keller was Director of the Herricks Community Center, a 79,000 sq. ft. community center. In this capacity, Keller created a 501 (c) (3) not-for-profit, tax-exempt foundation that received more than $2M in funding from federal, state, county, town, and private groups. She conceptualized Long Island's first Youth Council for Drug and Alcohol Prevention. During her 18 years of service to the Manhasset Public Schools, Keller held increasingly responsible positions. She began her tenure as a Title I Teacher and soon became the Title I Coordinator. Keller joined Manhasset's Central Administration in 1974, where she was a community and public relations liaison and was responsible for state, county, and private foundation grant applications. She developed many successful drug and alcohol prevention programs.
